Mid atlantic region President-Elect message

Message from Lisa Owens, MSN, RN, CWOCN

President-Elect

June 10, 2016

A BIG THANK YOU to all who attended the Mid Atlantic Regional meeting in Montreal!  We had a great turn out!  I think we all enjoyed listening to each other talk about our lives as WOC nurses.  It is important for us to remain cohesive and support each other in our quest for skin excellence!  For those who couldn’t attend, we went around the room and answered the following questions.  I’ve included a summary of answers!
How long have you been a WOC nurse?

  • We had responses from a few months to a few decades!

Why did you become a WOC nurse?

  • Almost everyone was inspired by the good works of other WOC nurses they’d experienced along their nursing journey.

What is your proudest accomplishment this past year?

  • Lots of attendees mentioned personal accomplishments such as sending children off to college, coordinating weddings, or having grandchildren for the first time.  Others talked about professional achievements to include certification, graduation and publishing.

What motivates you to work hard?

  • It was unanimous!  All of us love what we do, naturally are hard workers, and remain inspired by the responsiveness of our patients.

If you had a “warning label”, what would yours say?

  • Suffice it to say, we are fiercely protective of our patients and that comes in many forms!

What is your goal for next year?

  • Answers included research, publishing, certifications and graduations.  Some are even planning retirement!
